What will 2024 bring for Discover Eagle's Nest?

A new year, a new website, our 11th tour season, and a completely new endeavour for us… a Blog!

A new year has begun, and as we head into February the holiday season, celebrations, and family festivities are well and truly behind us and for us that means preparation for the 2024 guiding season begins in earnest! As Third Reich focussed tour guides based on the Obersalzberg, our work is very much seasonal. Although the history is here all year round, the highlight for most visitors to this mountainside is the Eagle’s Nest. Perched high atop a mountain peak in the Berchtesgaden Alps, the Eagle’s Nest is not accessible all year round which means the majority of our tours are packed into six months: from the beginning of May to the end of October.

Preparing for a new season normally consists of lots of organisation: corresponding with travellers interested in our tours and scheduling in lots of new bookings ready for when the Eagle’s Nest opens again in May. At this time of year everyone feels the same; enthusiastic at the start of a new year, busy making exciting plans for 2024, and getting new experiences lined up for the year, so we start to receive lots and lots of tour enquiries. Our preparation also includes lots of research and reading. Always striving to provide the best quality historical tours, and eager to learn everything there is to learn, we are always searching out new information about this area that we can share with our guests.

What's New for 2024?

For us 2024 is even more exciting than previous years, with the launch of our brand new website! After ten seasons working as accredited historical tour guides on a freelance basis, we have finally taken the plunge and created our own company: Discover Eagle’s Nest. This is incredibly exciting and we now look forward to developing our own brand into the future and continuing to do what we love to do for many years to come. With the launch of our brand new website, we thought it would be a perfect time to try something else new using our new platform…

What we do is so much more than work for us; it’s a passion. We love learning and what this work has definitely taught us is that

a)       no matter how much knowledge you have, there’s always more to learn,

b)      there are lots of people around the world with the same fervent interest in this particular history and learning more about it (and we love meeting them through our work!).

A Brand New Endeavour...

So, we thought we would add another new project to 2024, this time something completely different for us, and launch a blog on our new website. What we aim to achieve with our blog is to share all kinds of interesting things that fellow history enthusiasts might find intriguing. Things like lesser-known stories about the Obersalzberg that we have learned along the way, new book or documentary releases about the Third Reich that we have discovered and find fascinating, and some of the curious inside secrets hidden here on the mountainside that we have unique access to ‘behind the scenes’ as historical tour guides.

We’ve already got lots of ideas of the kind of content we’d like to share, so forming these into something that’s ready to post is a new task to add to our pre-season preparation. Hopefully this new blog will be interesting for those who read it, whether past or future visitors to this area that is steeped in so much history. We look forward to developing a new way to share these stories with like minded people, and with any luck we’ll enjoy creating each new blog post as 2024 progresses!
